Gornensky Resurrection Convent in Jerusalem
The Gornensky Convent in Jerusalem is located in Ein Karem district, four kilometers southwest of the city centre. Here, to the Hill Country, the Blessed Virgin Mary came from Nazareth, soon after the Annunciation, to share her joy with her relative, the righteous Elizabeth, mother of St. John the Baptist, about the birth of the Saviour to her.
In 1871, Archimandrite Antonin bought two houses and a large olive tree plantation in this place, and then, having expanded the plot by purchasing adjacent land, he built a shelter for Russian pilgrims. In 1911, the construction of a large cathedral church began on the territory of the convent which was interrupted in 1914 due to the outbreak of the First World War. Work resumed in 2003 with the active participation of the Honoured Builder of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Adamovich Zarenkov. Builders from Saint Petersburg completed the construction of the Cathedral in Honour of All the Saints who shone in the Russian land, restored the refectory and kitchen with utility rooms, replaced all engineering communications, made roads and sidewalks, expanded and improved the territory of the convent, repaired all convent buildings and cells. Construction of the Cathedral in Honour of All the Saints who shone in the Russian land was finished. On November 12, 2012, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' consecrated the cathedral.
