TEMPLE BUILDING

The Creative Universe Project pays special attention to the restoration and construction of Orthodox temples. Churches and Orthodox shrines are being built and restored in Russia, Belarus, Serbia, Bulgaria and Cyprus. Largely thanks to the support and efforts of the Foundation in Saint Petersburg, the buildings of the Ioannovsky Convent on Karpovka were restored, the Church of St. George the Victorious, the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and the Church in the name of St. Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg were erected. According to ancient, miraculously saved drawings and photographs, the Temple of the Nativity on the Sands destroyed in 1934 was recreated from scratch.

Intending Cross on the Rybachy Island of the Valaam Stavropegic Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour

The cross for every Christian is a light tower that does not allow to get lost in the sea of worldly passions and helps to follow the path that leads to God. At sea, crosses also became the forerunners of light towers. Putting such light towers on the coasts is an ancient pious tradition of the Russian North. Today, the honoured philanthropist of Saint Petersburg, Vyacheslav Zarenkov, continues this tradition by installing Intending Crosses around the world, and now by creating the main entrance sign of the Valaam Monastery.

The entry sign shaped as an Intending Cross of the Stavropegic Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour on the Rybachy Island was erected upon the project of the architect Ekaterina Kuznetsova, manufactured by PROTON-SPB Saint Petersburg Company and installed thanks to the ktitor of the monastery Vyacheslav Zarenkov. The cross is completely made of Karelian granite, its height together with the pedestal is seven and a half metres. At the base of the cross there is an inscription: “We bow down before Your cross, O Master,” and there is a memorial plaque embedded in the pedestal.
This is the biggest Intending Cross on the island of Valaam.

In addition, this entry sign is a complex architectural structure, which was created and installed by a well-coordinated team of professional architects, designers, masons, mechanics and builders.
