SURA THROUGH THE EYES OF ST PETERSBURG ARTISTS
In August, 2012 within the frames of international social and cultural project of Viacheslav Zarenkov “Creative World” St Petersburg artists Natalia Beketova, Dmitry Egupov and Anastasia Perepelitsyna visited the native place of St John of Kronstadt Sura village located in Pinezhsky District, Arkhangelsk Region.
The village is located at confluence of the Sura and Pinega rivers, the right tributary of the Northern Dvina. Not far from the village there are white alabaster rocks with caves, forests, meadows… The northern nature, magnificent monuments of Orthodox culture, life, traditions and customs of people handed on by elder generation by word of the mouth with sincere affection was the unforgettable experience for painters from St Petersburg. The creative expedition resulted in creation of more than thirty pictures devoted to this historical place. Some pictures of St Petersburg artists were donated to John Nunnery in Sura.
